Decorative gravel and aggregates
Gravel and chippings are a low maintenance way to cover borders, paths and driveways, and they help with drainage. Slate chippings turn a deeper colour when wet and suit water features and modern planting. Limestone chippings give a bright, natural look, and rounded pebbles and cobbles work well as borders and around ponds.
Most of our aggregates come in bulk bags, with some also available in smaller carry bags. We also stock spruce bark for borders and play areas, double screened topsoil for lawns and beds, and a recycled plastic gravel grid that keeps gravel stable on driveways and paths.
Frequently asked questions
How deep should decorative gravel be?
Around 50mm is a common depth for borders and paths. Driveways need a deeper, well compacted sub-base under the gravel.
How much does a bulk bag cover?
Coverage depends on the product and depth. Each product page at LSD and Hardcores shows the approximate coverage.
Should I put a membrane under gravel?
Yes. A weed control membrane under gravel helps stop weeds and keeps the stones separate from the soil.
