Sawn edge riven paving
Sawn edge paving combines the natural riven surface of Indian stone with machine-cut edges. The straight, square edges allow tighter joints and a crisper outline than hand-cut paving, while the textured face keeps the character and grip of natural stone.
Kandla Grey, Raj Green and Rippon Buff sandstones are available with sawn edges, along with Midnight Kota Black limestone and natural Black Slate. They are a good middle ground for gardens that want a modern layout without the fully smooth look of honed paving.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between sawn and hand-cut edges?
Hand-cut edges are chipped by hand for a rustic outline. Sawn edges are cut by machine, giving straight, square sides and allowing narrower joints.
Is sawn edge paving more expensive?
It usually costs a little more than hand-cut paving because of the extra cutting, but it can save time on site as the slabs line up more easily.
Can I use sawn edge paving with setts?
Yes. Sawn edge paving pairs well with sawn and tumbled setts or cobbles as a border or path.
