Cobbles and setts for driveways and borders

Natural stone cobbles and setts are thicker than paving slabs, which makes them strong enough for driveways as well as paths, borders and patio edging. They are also useful for awkward shapes and curves, where cutting large slabs would be difficult and wasteful.

Choose riven cobbles with a natural split surface, tumbled cobbles for an aged look, or sawn and tumbled block paving setts for a driveway that looks like it was laid years ago. The range includes Indian sandstone, limestone, Egyptian limestone and granite, plus porcelain setts to match porcelain patios.

Frequently asked questions

Can cobbles be used for a driveway?

Yes. Natural stone cobbles and setts are designed to take vehicles when laid on a properly prepared sub-base and bedding layer.

What is the difference between cobbles and setts?

The terms are often used together. Setts are usually rectangular blocks cut to consistent sizes, while cobbles can be more irregular. Both are thicker than paving slabs.

How do I use setts as a patio border?

Lay one or two rows of setts around the edge of the patio in a contrasting or matching colour to frame the paving.
